Look What's Coming in November/December

Ringing in the Holidays:

This is a Friends Civitans Fundraiser. Volunteers are needed for three venues.
The date is Novemer 27, 2009 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Old Town Pavilion, Pocatello High School and Portneuf Valley Brewing.

Old Town Pocatello will have a petting zoo and a talking tree. Pocatello High School will have face painting and a bouncing gym.
Portneuf Valley Brewing will have crafts upstairs and a place to write a letter to Santa Claus.

Each venue will need a cashier to collect the $1.00 fee (children under 2 are no charge). Help is also needed to help clean up after the event.
At the end of the event volunteers are invited to Old Town Pavilion for coffee and treats and watch the parade.

The Bannock Civitan and Friends committee members include Ann McCarty, Teresa Wakeman, Crystal Taylor and James Steed.

Parade of Lights:

Marcus Sierra is the Committee Chair for the Civitan float for Parade of Lights.
Koeman Smith is donating a trailer for the float.
The float will be decorated Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 270 Randolph (near Five Corners)at 6:00 p.m.
Refreshments will be served. Please give Marcus a call at 241-5053 if you will be there to help or have
extras you would like to donate or lend to the float committee.
Items needed: lights, Christmas ornaments, garland, stockings for the mantle, or other ideas.

Theme: Home for the Holidays.

Parade of Lights will be held November 27, 2009. Line up starts at 4:00 p.m. on 1st Avenue near the Benton Street Bridge.
Judging is from 5:30-6:00 and the parade starts moving at 6:30 p.m.

Marcus asks Civitans to help decorate, dress up like a gift and walk in the parade.

Bowling for Toys:

Bowling for Toys will be held December 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. Tough Guy Lanes, 403 E. Lewis.

4-person teams. Bowling will be a 9-pin no tap which means if you get 9 pins down with the first bowl you get a strike.
The cost will be $5.00 per person, plus 1 un-wrapped toy at a value of $10.00 or more.

There is a full bar, and Wing It Restaurant in the Bowling Alley.

The committee chairs are Sandra Bischoff and Marla Martinell.
The committee is looking for prizes and raffle items. Tickets will be sold for a 50/50 drawing.
The Marines will be selling the raffle tickets. Who can resist a man in uniform?
Half goes to the lucky winner and the other half will be used to buy whatever is needed for the SEICAA Children’s Christmas party.
There will be a prize for the top bowler and the lowest bowler.

The toys will be used to provide approximately 225 children with a toy at the SEICCA Christmas Party on December 12, 2009.

SEICAA Children's Christmas Party:

For the 9th year, Bannock Civitans and SEICAA will team up to
provide another great party for approximately 225 children in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area.
The date of the party has been set for Saturday, December 12 and will again be held in two sessions.
The first session will begin at 10:00 and the second at 11:00.

Toys will be sorted and the candy will be bagged on Wednesday, December 9th,
beginning at 6:00 in the recreation room at St. Anthony Place. Please use the 7th street entrance.

Santa and Mrs. Clause will be there with their elves and the choir from Hawthorne Jr. High will provide entertainment.
The first committee meeting was held on Friday, November 13th at the New Hong Kong on Center Street.
The next meeting will be held Friday, December 4th, same time, same place.

You may also sign up to help at any regular Civitan meeting.
Bannock Civitan meets each Wednesday at noon at J Anna’s Bistro.

Bannock Civitan Member Christmas Party:

Bannock Civitan will host the annual member Christmas party on Thursday December 17 at The Brick Loft.
You and a guest are invited to enjoy some holiday cheer with your fellow Civitans.

Social hour begins at 6:00 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm.
Dinner by Texas Roadhouse - ribs and chicken.
Following dinner will be the white elephant gift exchange.
White elephant gifts means something nice and new (or nearly new) that you have at home.
This is the perfect time for re-gifting. The Right/Left Game will be done by Kevin Wakeman.
Then we will have music and dancing. Please bring your own adult beverages.

The Brick Loft is located on the second floor at 928 N. Main (above Bricks & Sticks Real Estate and across from Ridley's).
The entrance is on the north side of the building.
There is plenty of off-street parking on the south side and rear of the building.

SEICAA/Pathfinders Snowmobile Outing:

The date is Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
Pocatello Pathfinders Snowmibile club is helping with this event.
They provide chili, hot dogs, and hot chocolate at their snowmobile hut as well as snowmibiles and helmets for the kids.
They will be taking the kids for rides and helping transport the Christmas trees up the hill and down the hill.
They are very excited to help agin this year and love watching the kids and how excited they get on the sleds.
They are great partners for this and we look forward to them being a part of this event each year.

Volunteeres are needed: 12 vehicles to transport kids from SEICAA (north side door) to the Crystal Summit area and home after the event.

Donations are needed: Christmas trees, stands, decorations, lights. Coats, pants, boots, gloves, hats for the kids.
The kids can then keep the winter warmers for every day use.

Drop donations at Porters Office Supply (formerly Bangs) or call Gerald Kimber at 406-6304.
