![]() Central Mississippi Bird Club, Ltd. is an active club with members from the entire state of Mississippi as well as other states. Membership is comprised of individuals and families, including pet bird owners, bird breeders, pet store owners and employees, veterinarians and their assistants and students. A large number of species are represented among members’ bird families, with psittacine birds ranging from budgerigars to macaws and non-psittacines from finches to peafowl. The primary purpose of CMBC is to educate club members and members of the community about the care and breeding of caged birds and about larger avicultural concerns such as captive propagation of rare and endangered species, research and conservation of avian species in their native habitats. The club usually meets on the second Sunday of each month at 2:00pm at The Orchard in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Meetings include lectures or demonstrations on a variety of avicultural topics. Our meetings also provide a chance to cultivate friendships with other aviculturists and pet bird owners. A major activity of the club is our bird fair in which the public is given the chance to see and learn about a large variety of exotic bird species, to learn about the care and breeding of selected species, to see commercial exhibits, etc. It is hoped that proceeds from a raffle to be held at future fairs will be used to support worthy avian research and conservation projects. A newsletter, Beak to Beak, is published for members and provides useful information on a variety of avicultural topics and current concerns. The club is affiliated with and supports the American Federation of Aviculture (AFA). CMBC is a non-profit organization.

Parrot Rules I know these have been floating around out there for a long time, but that doesn't make them any less true! 1. If I like it, its mine. 2. If it’s in my beak, its mine. 3. If I can take it from you, its mine. 4. If I had it a little while ago, its mine. 5. If its mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way. 6. If I’m chewing something, all the pieces are mine. 7. If it looks like mine, its mine. 8. If I saw it first, its mine. 9. If you have something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine. |
All Natural Air Freshener If you like your house to smell nice, but don't want to use potentially toxic commercial air freshener sprays, here's a natural alternative that smells great & is totally bird safe. (Remember, scented candles, potpourri, incense & essential oils can all be potentially toxic to birds, as well). Fill a small saucepan ½ full with water. Toss in a cinnamon stick, a Tb of cloves, tsp of rosemary, & slice of orange and/or lime (with peel). Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered for ½ hour or so. You can get creative by adding fresh grated ginger, fresh spearmint or peppermint leaves, or some nutmeg and allspice for variation. Your house will smell great & your birds will be safe! It's especially nice around the holidays. You can put it in a spray bottle & spritz the air, or leave the pan on the stove & add a little water, then re-simmer over the next few days to continue keeping your house sweet!
