Welcome to The Patchogue Lioness Lions Home Page

We are very happy to have the opportunity to share the work we do to help those in our community and globally.

Our Motto is: We Serve

That is exactly what we do. Lions International has been in existance since 1917. It all began with a man named Melvin Jones who was interested in having businessmen meet for the purpose of helping serve the needs of their community. It was the first club started for such a purpose. In 1925, Helen Keller was the guest speaker at an International Convention and it was at this time that she challenged Lions everywhere to become Knights of the Blind and do everything we could to bring an end to preventable blindness and help those who are blind. This remains our major goal all these years later.

Collection of Used Eyeglasses
The collection of used eyeglasses for distribution at home and overseas has been an ongoing activity of our club. We are proud to say that to date we have collected over 16,000 pairs.

Annual Walk For a Guide Dog

The Patchogue Lioness Lions Club held its fifth annual Walk for a Guide Dog on Sunday, May 17, 2009. The community rallied and many walkers showed their support and helped us meet our goal of sponsoring our 12th guide dog.

Our club President was extremely proud to present this check to the Smithtown Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind on Lions Day which was held on May 30, 2009. Our newly sponsored puppy will be named Patches. We are proud to have sponsored a total of eleven guide dogs to date.

Our dog's names are: Romeo, Sandy, Piper, Vinny, Annie, Lari, Krudi, Chief, Walker,Poncho,Patches and Silver.

Our club will be holding its next Walk for a Guide Dog in May of 2010. We happily invite anyone who is interested to sponsor a walker or to walk with us. **The only dogs walking in this event are guide dogs**
