Local Volunteer Information Locals Get Involved with Woihanble Yuwita Habitat for Humanity! An affiliate is governed by it's local board of Directors, all of whom serve as volunteers. This board sets policy and directions for the organization and is the ultimate decision-maker at the local level. The work of the affiliate is carried by the committees of the board and the volunteers that are directed by these committees. Live in the Pine Ridge community or any of it's surrounding communities and would like to volunteer contact us. Local volunteers are the backbone of Woihanble Yuwita HfH. Want to volunteer on:Board of Directors- The Board of Directors is the decision-making and policy setting body of the affiliate. The board sets financial goals and priorities, manages legal matters, and communicates with Habitat for Humanity International and the region center. Board members should attend all board meetings and actively participate in them and serve on committees or as board officers. Board members have responsibilty to know and fulfill their proper role as a board member and act in the best interest of those their organization serves. President of the Board Supervises board members as the principle elected officer of the board. The board president's main responsibilities are to manage, direct and disciplinary board members, and to preside over all board members. Vice President of the Board Maintains leadership continuity by performing the duties of the board presidnet in his or her absence. Treasurer of the Board Insures the finacial integrity of the organization. Secretary of the Board Maintains all board records and ensures their accuracy and safety. Member of the Board Act as voting member o fthe board with full authoriy and responsibility to develope policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the organization; to monitor the organization's financial helth, programs and overall preformance; and to provide the chief executive officer with the resources ti meet the needs of those the organization serves. Board Committees provide leadership and guidence in specialized areas that can be dealt with more effectively by smaller group than the full board. Family Selection Committee Responsible for draftinf the selection criteria used to select families for approval by the board of directors. The committee is also responsible for - informing prospective homeowners that they may be elegible to apply, developing an orientation program for applicants, developing application forms, screening applications, interviewing prospective families, and recommending applicants to the board of directors approval. Family Nuture Provide friends, mutual support system, educational opportunities, and a forum for discussion pertaining to Habitat homeownership. The goal is to help break the proverty cycle and become independant by having faith. Site Selection Committee Helps refine the vision developement by the board by defining the focus neiborhood for the affililate and working to aquire sites within it. One an area is chosen, the committee is responsible for recommending property for acquisition to the board. Building Commitee Responsible for working woth site selection committee under the direction of the board to choose the area in which work and the type of construction that best fits both the needs of the local community and Habitat's goals. The committee needs to propose guidlines to the board for the type of work that the affiliate will do, dealing specifically with the materials, amenities, and design criteria for the work. A construction plan and cost estimates should be developed. Church Relations Committee Seeks to bring an ever increasing amount of churches in the life of the affiliate and it works to continually tap into the resources of the church (its traditions, teaching, discipline, language, ect.) to help the affiliate further appreciate, depen, and celebrate its Christian focus. Volunteer Committee Helps provide support and recognition for the volunteers. This group can provide coordintaion for hosting outside work camps, organize food, first aid, and hospitality on the work site, and plan an annual appreciation potluck. Fundraising Committee Fundraising Committee responsibility is to ensure the organization's finacial health by contributing personal and raising money from outside sources. Fundraising committee plans and participates in fund raising activites. Public Realations Committee Public Relations project a positive image of the organization both in his or her public and private dealings. The role of this committee is to help the administrator in his/her responsiblities to set formal direction and provide opportunities for the rest of the board to carry out this impotant duty. PR Committee goals are to get word out to the public about Habitat for Humanity and it's goals. It can be by public speaking, develope marking, newspaper, newsletter and so on. Youth/Young Adult Involvement High School Students, College Students, any youth and young adults who want to volunteer in the Pine Ridge Community are welcomed to volunteer with Woihanble Yuwita Habitat for Humanity. |
